FOOTBALL: Abingdon's run crashes to a halt
10:00am Monday 30th August 2010
Mangotsfield 5 (Groves 9, 78, Meaker 23, 40 Rendall 73) Abingdon United 0
ABINGDON United boss Richie Bourne’s honeymoon period ended in a thrashing by their Southern League Division 1 South & West rivals in the prelimiray round of the FA Cup.
After three wins out of three games, hopes were high, but once Matt Groves fired the hosts ahead they never looked back.
Mangotsfield doubled their lead when Michael Meakers headed in.
At the other end, Andrew Younie shot straight at Mangotsfield keeper Danny Greaves.
Five minutes before the break, Meaker slotted his second to make it 3-0.
After the break, Karim Rendall made it 4-0, before Groves hit No 5.
Matty Horsell went close for Abingdon late on, but that was as good as it got.
